Pardon Services in Winnipeg
If you have a criminal record in Canada, a Canadian pardon — officially called a record suspension — may help you move forward.
A pardon/record suspension can reduce barriers related to many standard background checks used for employment, volunteering, education, and housing. Not every record is the same, and the right next step depends on your situation.

What Is a Canadian Pardon (Record Suspension)?
A Canadian pardon (record suspension) is an administrative process handled by the Parole Board of Canada. When granted, it separates eligible convictions from active criminal record databases used in many routine checks.
Only the Government of Canada can grant a record suspension. Our role is to help you understand your options, review eligibility, and prepare a complete application so you can proceed with clarity and confidence.

How a Record Suspension Can Help
- Employment opportunities
- Bonding and certain security screening situations
- Volunteer roles
- Education and licensing applications
- Housing applications
Outcomes depend on individual circumstances and the government’s review process. A consultation helps clarify what’s realistic for your specific record and timeline.
Important Information About U.S. Travel
A Canadian pardon/record suspension is not recognized by the United States. It does not guarantee entry into the U.S. Some people may still require a U.S. Entry Waiver, depending on their history and travel needs.
This is one of the most common areas of confusion — and one of the best reasons to speak with someone before you travel.
Canadian Record Suspension Waiting Periods
A waiting period must be completed before applying, starting after your sentence is fully finished. As a general guideline:
- 5 years for summary convictions
- 10 years for indictable convictions
If a fine was imposed, the waiting period typically begins once the fine is paid in full. Some older discharges and special situations can require additional steps — we can confirm what applies during your consultation.
Who Can Apply?
You do not have to be a Canadian citizen to apply for a Canadian record suspension. Eligibility depends on multiple factors, including the type of conviction and the time since sentence completion.
Certain convictions under federal statutes (including the National Defence Act and other federal acts/regulations) may also qualify. A consultation helps confirm eligibility before you invest time and effort into an application.
Processing Time for a Pardon
Processing times vary. Many applications take approximately 6–12 months once submitted, depending on complexity and government processing. If granted, the Parole Board of Canada notifies the relevant agencies to update records accordingly.
